Canvex vs Citrix

All of the workstation. None of the Citrix.

Citrix DaaS is the deepest VDI stack ever built, and deploying it is a career. If you don't have a Citrix team, a Citrix budget, and a Citrix timeline, you don't need Citrix. You need a workstation.

The honest version

Citrix earned its place in large enterprises: HDX is an excellent protocol, the policy surface is enormous, and if you need to deliver one published app to 40,000 call-center seats there is still nothing better. But that power rides on a stack of Delivery Controllers, StoreFront, Gateways, VDAs, and licensing tiers that takes specialists to run and quarters to deploy. Canvex trades the top 10% of that configurability for a platform one admin can run: workstations provision in minutes, stream to a browser, and bill by the day.

Time to first desktopWeeks to months: architecture, licensing, infrastructure build, image management, pilot.About five minutes from signup, in a browser tab.
Infrastructure you operateDelivery Controllers or DaaS plane, StoreFront, Gateway/ADC, VDAs, profile management, often a consultant.None. Canvex runs the control plane and the compute.
Pricing modelPer-user/per-CCU subscriptions, quote-based, annual commitments, seat minimums.Platform plan from $9/mo plus per-workstation compute billed daily. Stop a workstation, stop paying compute for it.
GPU workstationsHDX 3D Pro is capable, but GPU means owning the hardware or paying cloud GPU rates on top of licensing.Real NVIDIA and Intel GPUs as a daily-priced add-on, from $0.50/day for 1 GB VRAM to H100-class.
Directory requirementsActive Directory is assumed throughout the stack.None required. SSO (SAML/OIDC) and SCIM on Enterprise when you want them.
ProtocolHDX/ICA: mature, extremely tunable, decades of edge cases handled.RDP via the browser or direct connect. Simpler surface, fewer knobs to hold wrong.
App virtualization / published appsThe category leader. Published apps, app layering, offline scenarios. Not our game. Canvex delivers full workstations, not app virtualization.
Admin skill requiredA certified specialty. CCA/CCP certifications exist for a reason. If you can use a web dashboard, you can run it.

Where Citrix is the right call

  • You have tens of thousands of seats and the economics of a dedicated Citrix team already work.
  • You need published applications and app layering, not full workstations.
  • Your compliance program requires certifications Canvex hasn't earned yet (our SOC 2 is on the roadmap, and our Trust Center says so plainly).
  • You have deep HDX-dependent edge cases: specialized peripherals, extreme-latency links with session reliability tuning, decades of accumulated policy.

Where Canvex is the right call

  • You're a team of 5 to 500 and nobody's full-time job is VDI.
  • You need GPU workstations (CAD, EDA, data science) without buying hardware or negotiating GPU licensing SKUs.
  • You want usage-based billing that scales down: contractors, seasonal staff, classrooms, project work.
  • You want to evaluate today. The trial takes five minutes and doesn't involve a sales call.

Most buyers aren't choosing feature-by-feature. They're choosing between a quarter of deployment plus a specialist, and this afternoon. If your requirements need the former, Citrix does it well. If they don't, the legacy tax buys you nothing.
